My Granda was a gentleman, Quiet and set in his way, He had a heart filled with love, And a smile that lit up my day I lived with my family at Granda’s house, Which was to the north of Belfast town, My Granda drove a donkey and cart, And had a little fruit and vegetable round When Granda finished his work each day, He would visit Paddy’s bar, He played dominoes with his mates, And drank Guinness from a jar I was only ten years old when he left me, It wasn’t by choice he went away, The angels in Heaven called him, So with his loved ones he could not stay It is now sixty four years since he left me, I treasure his memory so dear, Sometimes like now when I think of him, I feel his presence so near. Dedicated to the memory of my wonderful Granda “A true Irish gentleman.” Love Belle x x x
